“Pani” (Water)

The people of Lele in Nepal discuss the problems with their water supply

For 25 minutes people from the rural Nepali village, Lele, discuss the history of their water supply system, why it broke down and what the actual problems are.
Women pose critical questions to the men of the water committee:
  • Why are women not involved in water management?
  • What is the committee doing with the fees it is collecting?
  • Is the sensitive issue of caste preventing proper and equal water management?
  • Why are people not paying their fees to the maintenance fund?
  • Why do people not help with the cleaning of the pipes?

All people from the village express their opinions: rich and poor, high and low caste people, women and men. The video film is a very lively discussion about the daily and very basic problems in the management of the water supply system of Lele. These issues, familiar to staff working in the water sector, can be used to start discussions about the critical aspects of community water supply management.
